A well-maintained product is a more sustainable product. If you care for your garment it will perform better, for longer. Here are some tips on maximising the performance and longevity of your Untrakt product.
If your waterproof gear is no longer effectively beading when wet it will either need washing and/or re-proofing. If the face-fabric of garment takes on water and ‘wets out’, the membrane will struggle to perform. Simply washing and tumble drying the garment will clean away pollutants and body oils, and allow the face-fabric and membrane to work effectively again, whilst tumble drying will reactivate the DWR coating, restoring beading.
Wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle, or follow the instructions on the inside of the garment. We recommend a soap flake-based detergent, such as Nikwax Tech Wash or similar. It’s very important that you do not use fabric softener, conditioner, or bleach, and avoid using regular detergents.
Please always close buttons, zippers and Velcro closures before washing.
For optimal reactivation of the waterproofing (DWR) it’s a good idea to place the garment in a tumble dryer for approx. 30 minutes on a low setting, checking intermittently. If you don’t have a tumble dryer you can hang it over a gentle heat source, ie a radiator, or inside an airing cupboard, or you can also iron the face side of the fabric using a tea towel between the iron and the fabric. Set the iron to a low-medium heat, and ensure the iron does not come into direct contact with the fabric.
If this process doesn’t sufficiently restore performance, you can also re-apply DWR to the face- fabric, using a product such as Nikwax TX Direct – which is PFC free. We find a spray-on treatment works better than a wash-in treatment, with less impact on breathability.
When purchasing your item from a registered stockist you enter into a contract of sale with them. If you experience a problem with your UNTRAKT product, and the item is less than a year old, we would recommend contacting the stockist first as they will have a warranty & returns policy in place to provide a hassle free service.
Outside of your warranty with the stockist, all products come with a guarantee that covers the original owner, with proof of purchase, for up to 2 years. We are aware that from time to time faults can appear. Should a product fail due to defects in workmanship and/or materials, we will firstly endeavour to repair the item. We're keen to avoid landfill, so this would be our preferred option, however if the item is un-repairable we will replace the garment at our discretion. All claims will be judged on a case by case basis.
Failure to produce proof of purchase invalidates your warranty/guarantee.
Products which are damaged as a result of accident, wear and tear, improper care or negligence, or the natural breakdown of materials over time are excluded from warranty/guarantee. In these situations we are happy to help organise a repair where possible, at the customer’s expense.
