Our Eco Story

RECYCLED & RECYCLABLE

No-one’s perfect when it comes to being eco, so we’re aiming for progress rather than perfection. We believe that by trying to be better we can make a difference, no matter how small – it all counts.

We love the mountains, love to ski and board, and we love to do it in kit that is well designed and performs. We see no reason why our kit shouldn’t be as ecologically-conscious as possible whilst doing so, which is why we created Untrakt.

With such a large percentage of textiles and clothing being sent to landfill each year, our main focus is on finding ways to produce environmentally conscious ski & snowboard gear, so that we don’t add to this.

Recycled and Recyclable. We’re taking steps to ensure our garments are both.

Eco Shield
ECOSHIELD

ecoSHIELD is a recycled Polyester membrane made from 85% Polyester film waste + 15% recycled bottles.

Waste from membrane production would usually be discarded, but this waste is cut into fragments, processed into small granules and then combined with recycled bottles to form a new high-performance waterproof and breathable membrane. It’s also possible to recycle this ecoSHIELD membrane at the end of the garment’s life, meaning that your garment can avoid being added to the ever increasing percentage of textiles going into landfill each year.

It offers performance of 15,000mm Water Column and 15,000 – 20,000 g/M2 breathability

DWR
DWR

Most people are now aware of the harmful effects that PFC’s have on the environment and on us, so that’s why we’re committed to only using PFC free DWR on our fabrics & garments.

We’ve also applied a Plasma finish (Super DWR) to our OBSIDIAN range which helps to lengthen the working life of the DWR between reapplications.

After 50 washes: 80~90% water repellency remains
After 100 washes: 70~80% water repellency remains

Zips
ZIPS

We source our zips from an Oeko-Tex and Bluesign® approved company.

Using a water reclamation treatment system, SBS re-use approximately 60% of wastewater produced during the electroplating process. In addition, SBS continue to work on supercritical CO2 dyeing technology, which will eliminate harmful post-dyeing procedures and waste liquids.

Biodegradable packaging
PACKAGING

We use a PLA bag for packaging. Made from rice straw and chaff processed into starch plastic, it's completely biodegradable, compostable, 100% natural, and non-toxic. It can use any waste disposal method such as incineration, burial, recycling or composting. Decomposition takes between 60 days and 15 months depending on humidity and conditions.

We also use recycled card for swing tags and a jute string instead of plastic to attach tags to garments.

GRS Registered Fabric
GRS – GLOBAL RECYCLED STANDARD

The fabric we use for our waterproof garments is GRS registered. The Global Recycled Standard is a holistic certification for products with recycled content. The desired effect of the GRS is to provide brands with a tool for more accurate labelling, to encourage innovation in the use of reclaimed materials, to establish more transparency in the supply chain and to provide better information to consumers.

BLUESIGN®

The fabric & zips we use for our waterproof garments are bluesign® registered. The bluesign® system is based on five principles:

Resource productivity

Consumer safety

Water emission

Air emission

Occupational health & safety

The independent bluesign® system pursues the unique approach to minimize the environmental impact throughout the production process. This guarantees the application of sustainable ingredients in a clean process. As a result, the textile industry manages the natural resources soundly and responsibly, reduces water and air emissions, improves its waste water treatment and generally reduces its ecological footprint.
